Dick Emery
Following several years in sales at both Ulster Television and Anglia Television Dick was in 1983 appointed to the Board of Central Television as Director of Sales. While at Central Television he developed the practice of using programme research to plan individual advertising campaigns for programmes. He also undertook the research project Adlab, which was revolutionary single source research and greatly influenced industry thinking about how television advertising works.

During his chairmanship (1986–8) of the Independent Television Association’s Marketing Committee, he was instrumental in removing formalised share schemes and increasing the permitted amount of peak time commercial minutes.

In 1989 he was the co-founder of Television Sales and Marketing Services (TSMS), Britain’s first independent sales house. He left in 1991 to join the Board of ITN as its first Commercial Director, and joined the ITV Network Centre in April 1993 as Director of Market Strategy.

In 1994 he joined BBC Worldwide as Director of Strategy and was appointed Managing Director of BBC Worldwide Television in September 1995. During his time at BBC Worldwide Dick played a major role in establishing significant joint ventures with Discovery Communications Inc on a global basis and Flextech in the UK creating UKTV in November 1997. Dick joined UKTV as CEO in April 1998.

Dick has been a member of the Advisory Committee for Advertising for the Cabinet Office since 1995. He became Chairman for the ACA in 2003.
