The Next Big Thing > Authors > Conrad Withey
Conrad began his career in FMCG marketing, initially with Boots The
Chemist and then Philip Morris. He moved into entertainment in 1996,
with a marketing position at PolyGram Filmed Entertainment.
After a sideways move into programming and rights acquisitions, Conrad was subsequently promoted to Head of Programming for PolyGram Video and then Vice President of Acquisitions within the international division of Universal Pictures.
For three years prior to founding The Rights Company, Conrad was Director of Retail Video for Momentum Pictures in the UK (a subsidiary of Alliance Atlantis Communications), starting the label and establishing it as a top ten home video distributor.
The combination of experience gained from marketing, production, rights acquisition and distribution meant that Conrad was uniquely placed to start The Rights Company in 2003. The company works with independent producers and other content owners as they look to better manage and exploit their ancillary rights in the post Communications Bill world.
The Rights Company works with a wide variety of independent producers (including Channel X, Vera Productions, Mersey TV, Princess Productions, Alliance Atlantis TV, Two Four, DNA, Brown Eyed Boy and Novel Entertainment) and has delivered back to them over £3 million in revenue from ancillary rights exploitation in the last 12 months alone.
