Harry Thompson
Harry Thompson was born in London in 1960 and grew up in Islington. He joined the BBC as a trainee in 1981 and worked as researcher and occasional joke writer on Not the Nine O’Clock News, etc.

As a BBC Radio Comedy producer 1984–90 he produced, among others, The News Quiz, The Mary Whitehouse Experience and the self-written sitcom Lenin of the Rovers with Alexei Sayle.

He has been a freelance TV producer since 1990 and was founding producer of: Have I Got News For You (Hat Trick); Harry Enfield and Chums(Tiger Aspect); Newman and Baddiel in Pieces (BBC); They Think It’s All Over (Talkback); Never Mind the Buzzcocks (Talkback – Co-Producer); The 11 O’Clock Show (Talkback – pilot shows only as he resigned before the series after a dispute with Channel 4); Da Ali G Show (Talkback); Liar (Talkback); and Monkey Dust (Talkback).

Harry has published The Man In The Iron Mask (a serious history book!), Tintin(biography), Lord of the Gnomes (a biography of Richard Ingrams and Private Eye) and Peter Cook (biography) and he has a six-figure deal with Hodder to write two new historical novels for 2004 and 2006.

He has worked as an occasional journalist for various newspapers including travel journalism and was nominated travel journalist of the year in 1995.
